Pediatric neonate. Kapi'olani is the only hospital in hawai'i specializing in newborn care. Its level iiib neonatal intensive care unit provides the highest level of care for more than 900 premature and critically-ill babies each year. It is the only hospital in the state staffed by a dedicated team of neonatologists, on-site 24 hours a day. More than 150 newborn babies requiring this special care are transferred to kapi'olani from throughout hawai'i hospitals every year. Kapi'olani is a major teaching hospital for the university of hawai'i john a. Burns school of medicine's pediatric residency training program.
