YOUTH COMMUNITIES BASED YOUTH PROGRAMS Empowers youth to lead healthy successful lifestyles by maximizing their educational attainment, increasing their resiliency and engaging in activities that reflect family/cultural values and community pride. The following services are also available: mentoring, life-skills groups, academic assistance, parental outreach/engagement, and alternative activities.MOTHERS AGAINST GANGS (MAG)MAG provides young adults and their families with alternatives to destructive behavior through constructive activities that lead to new life choices. During 2004, MAG provided youth and families with a safe and nurturing environment, successfully facilitating positive peer interaction through drop-in center activities.CARL HAYDEN YOUTH CENTERThe youth center provided educational and recreational programs to seven hundred fifty (750) residents of West Phoenix. CHYC provides youth with a safe and nurturing environment, successfully facilitating positive peer interaction through drop-in center activities. The Youth Empowerment Program has been enhanced by the ARCO Project that includes mural making, teatro, and creative writing that will include a web based magazine which was implemented into the center in 2004, providing academic and life skills development training to youth and their families.YOUTH DROP IN CENTER (RESOURCE FACILITY IN TUCSON FOR INNER-CITY YOUTH)The Brazos Abiertos program offers students academic assistance and tutoring. Computers are made available to youth on-site for completing school class work and projects. The Youth Drop-In Center provides case management services and implements activities that emphasize cultural and intergenerational awareness.SOMERTON AFTER SCHOOL COMPUTER LABAn after school computer lab for the youth of Somerton is provided to facilitate the completion of homework. A tutor is on-site to help the youth with any computer problems. The computer lab use is, free and available to middle school, high school, and college students. Four hundred twenty eight (428) students participated in the program.
