Christus Santa Rosa Health Care (Csrhc) Leads The Community In Sponsoring Blood Drives Coordinated With The Local South Texas Blood And Tissue Center Twice Each Year. Santa Rosa Associates And Community Volunteers Donate Blood For San Antonio, Bexar County And South Texas Residents Who Require Blood And Blood Products. The Blood Drives Support The Cancer Program Patients In Children'S And Santa Rosa Hospitals. With Each Unit Of Blood The Blood Center Is Able To Help Up To Four People. The Clinical Pastoral Education Supervisor Participates In Education Programs Conducted At The Oblate School Of Theology. Christus Santa Rosa Health Care Is Host To The Oblate School Of Theology Doctor Of Ministry Degree Program Students. Students In The Doctor Of Ministry Degree Program Receive Up To Four Course Credits For Their Cpe Units. Students Provide Ministry Services At Csrhc, Participate In Theological Reflection And Evaluation, And Participate In Cpe Peer Group Learning. Christus Santa Rosa Hospital - City Centre Offers Diabetic Education For Inpatients And Outpatients Including General Diabetic Care, Diabetes Self-Management And Gestational Diabetes Management For Pregnant Women With Diabetes. Christus Santa Rosa Hospital Medical Center Provides A Bedside Diabetes Education Program To Instruct Patients About The Fifteen Content Areas Recognized By The American Diabetes Association. Clients Receive Educational Literature In English And/Or Spanish. Christus Santa Rosa Hospital - City Centre Offers A Cardiac Rehabilitation Education Program For Preoperative And Postoperative Patients And Their Families. This Education Is Designed To Increase Understanding And Awareness Of The Signs And Symptoms Of Heart Disease, Cardiovascular Procedures And Interventional Procedures. The Education Resources Department Sponsors Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (Cpr) Classes For Community Laypersons And Healthcare Providers. Classes Are Offered According To The American Heart Association Basic Life Support And Heart Saver Standards. Christus Santa Rosa - City Centre Has Developed A Core Group Of Trained Associates Certified To Teach Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Acls) And Pediatric Advanced Life Support (Pals). These Associates Conduct Training For Annual Certification Of Associates. Education And Training Of Clinical Nursing Students Is Offered For Rn And Lvn Students Anytime Throughout The Year At Any And All Christus Santa Rosa Facilities. Nursing Students Are Trained On Nursing Floors, Surgery, Clinic Programs, Intensive Care Units, Mother/Baby Unit And A Variety Of Other Areas In The Hospital Environment. Students Training In Clinical Laboratory, Blood Bank, High School Students Interested In Laboratory Practices Are Often Seen Practicing At Santa Rosa. The Christus Santa Rosa Family Practice Residency (Csr-Fpp) Graduate Medical Education And Training Program Has Full-Time And Part-Time Physicians And Psychology Staff. The Csr-Fpp Staff Supervises First, Second And Third Year Residents Who Manage Patients In The Hospital, Emergency Room, Pediatrics, Obstetrics And In Nursing Homes. The Mexican American Physician Association (Mapa) Offers Mentoring Opportunities For Minority High School Students Who Seek Careers In The Health Care Field. The David Christopher Goldsbury Center For Children And Families Is The Community Base For Thirty-Four Clinical Subspecialty Programs. The Center Hosts A Variety Of Medical, Nursing, And Hospital, Community, Board, And Foundation Meetings On The Fifth Floor, A State Of The Art Audio-Visual Center For Community And Educational Meetings. Santa Rosa Has Demonstrated A Commitment To Community Education By Offering The Use Of These Facilities For The Continuing Education Of Students And Associates In Varied Professional Disciplines. The San Antonio Independent School District (Saisd) Partners With The Health Occupations Student Association (Hosa) To Provide A Program For High School Students Who Are Offered Clinical Hospital Observation Experiences. The Students Are Assigned To Work With A Preceptor And Exposed To Current Health Career Opportunities, Medical/Health Care Services In A Variety Settings- Outpatient Clinic, Inpatient Care And Physician Office Practice. High School Students Work In The Clinic Setting To Meet The Clinical Training Required For Completion Of Their Medical Assistant Program. Students Are Assigned A Preceptor To Supervise And Provide Firsthand Experience In Healthcare. The Christus Santa Rosa Children'S Hospital Asthma Education Program Has Maintained Their Status As A Premiere Asthma Outpatient Education And Self-Management Program. The Varied Components Are Important Because Asthma Has Been Identified As One Of The Leading Causes Of Missed School Days In The Young Child. A Team Of Physicians, Nurses, Respiratory Therapists And Social Workers Provide Asthma Education Classes For Patients And Their Parents. Both Group And Individual Classes Meet The Needs Of The Families. The Social Workers Perform Environmental Assessments Of Home Surroundings To Help Families Eliminate As Many Controllable Factors As Possible That Contribute To Asthma Attacks. Telephone Triage Helps Verify That Patients Are Compliant With Recommended Medication And Inhalation Regimens. The Efforts To Provide Support For Improving The Self Management Of Asthma In Young Children Will Serve For Life-Long Management. Many Children Find Creative Ways To Adjust To Their Condition And Develop Unique Ways Of Self-Management. The Christus Santa Rosa Advocacy Staff Are Representatives On The Regional Advisory Council And The Local Chip Advisory Council. Through The Advocacy Efforts In 2005, Federal Funds Were Made Available To Provide An In-House Mri Used For Advanced Diagnostic Testing. Local Maternal And Child Health Care Issues Are Addressed Through Their Representation And Participation In The San Antonio Mayor'S Public Policy Advisory Group. The Advocacy Staff Is Involved In Bringing Community Issues Forward And Presenting The Case For Legislative Change To Texas State Legislature Members. In Their Capacity As Advocates, The Staff Has Been Instrumental In Bringing Texas Governor Rick Perry, Senator Kaye Bailey Hutchinson, Senator Judith Zaffrini And Others To Christus Santa Rosa To Aide In Increasing Visibility For Community Issues And Needs And In Encouraging Legislative Changes To Address Those Issues And Needs. Advocacy Staff Serves As Board Members On The Texas Organ Sharing Alliance (Tosa) And The National Kidney Foundation. Community Benefits Focused On Those In Need $ 2,871,587 The Christus Santa Rosa David Christopher Goldsbury Center For Children And Families Is Home To The South Texas Epilepsy Center, One Of Forty Plus Clinics Dedicated To The Care Of Children And Their Families In Central And South Texas. Patients Of All Ages With Seizure Disorders Are Seen And Treated At This Clinic. Those Patients Unable To Pay Are Examined And Treated By Staff Physicians And Receive Medical Care And Disease Management. The Children'S Kidney Center Relocated From The University Of Texas Health Science Center At San Antonio (Uthscsa) To The Center For Children And Families. The Children Who Receive Peritoneal Dialysis Have Been Diagnosed With Kidney Failure. The Kidney Center Staff Sponsors Monthly Family Support Meetings For Parents To Discuss Conditions, Services And Home Experiences With Other Families. The Christus Santa Rosa Children'S Hospital Child Life And Child Development Services Provide Classes, Health Fairs And Visit Sick Children In The Hospital. A Major Program Focus Is To Offer Guided Imagery For Those Children Who Do Not Want To Receive Medication During Painful Procedures. This Process Allows Children To Control Some Of The Hospital Experience And Does Not Have The Lasting Effects Of Some Medications. The Child Life Department Continues As A Major Sponsor And Supporter For The San Antonio Safe Kids Coalition. Child Life Staff Participated In Many Different Events That Focused On Car Safety Education And Car Seat Distribution. The Christus Santa Rosa Angels Away Program Is A Bereavement Program Specially Developed To Meet The Needs Of Families Who Suffer The Loss Of A Newborn. The Program Provides Immediate And Follow-Up Support; Counseling, And Assistance In Helping Families Deal With The Loss Of Their Infant. Once Each Year, A Special Religious Service Is Offered For Parents And Staff To Encourage The Healing Process. The Angels Away Staff Provides Education Sessions For Hospital And Clinic Staff To Enable Those Staff To Extend Assistance To Grieving Families. Helping Our Parents Envision Discharge (H.O.P.E.) Is A Weekly Support/Educational Gathering For Parents/Siblings/Grandparents Of Neonatal And Special Care Nursery Babies. These High Risk Infants Frequently Are Hospitalized For Four To Six Weeks Before Being Discharged Home. Hope Offers Speakers Dedicated To Education And Support For Families In These Circumstances. An Annual Meeting Is Held To Prepare For The Summer Camp (Camp Discovery) That Is Organized For Children With Cancer And Cancer-Related Diseases. Planning Discussions Are Related To Staffing, Supplies, Children'S Diets, Staffing Of Physicians And Nurses, And Medication Administration. This Weeklong Retreat Called Camp Discovery Serves As A Respite Period For The Families Of Children With Cancer, Leukemia And Lymphoma And Helps Children Develop Responsible Self-Management Principles Of Their Cancer Related Condition. Children'S Hospital Associates Are Members Of The Association Of Pediatric Oncology Nurses - Local Chapter And National Association. In This Capacity, Associates Attend Board Meetings In Chicago; Serve As Treasurer Which Requires Monthly Management Of Email Communications, And Preparation For Local Apon Chapter Conference (Bits N Pieces) Which Was Held At Csrch June 11, 2005. The Christus Santa Rosa Ramiro P. Estrada Respite Station, Founded In 1987 Provides Respite Service To Families With Infants And Children Who Have Complex Medical, Developmental And Physical Disabilities And Who Require Around The Clock Care. Specially Trained Pediatric Nurses Provide Parents Respite By Admitting The Child To The Respite Station And Providing Care For The Child While The Family Is Afforded The Opportunity To Spend Time Away. Medical Supplies And Nutritional Needs Are Provided At No Additional Cost To The Participating Families. Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (Sane) Are Specially Trained Professionals Who Assess Victims Of Abuse, Provide Sensitive And Complete Examinations And Collect Forensic Specimens. Sane Nurses Are Trained In And Frequently Testify In Court Regarding Forensic Evidence Recovered During Examination. The Sane Director Provides Community Education To Legal Agencies And Serves As A Board Member On A Variety Of Abuse Prevention Committees. The Sane Director Participates On A Citywide Response Task Force Dedicated To Understanding The Causes Of Child Abuse. Sane Members Are Expanding Their Community Visibility Through Their Participation In Education About Forms Of Abuse That Children May Experience. Sane Staff Offer Frequent Training Sessions To The Law Enforcement Members Of The Community, San Antonio, Bexar County And Others From The South Texas Area. Lectures And Trainings Have Been Offered As Far Away As Eugene, Oregon For The Office Of The Attorney General Of Oregon. The Christus Santa Rosa Women, Infants And Children (Wic) Program Provides Nutrition And Breastfeeding Education And Support For Pregnant, Postpartum And Breastfeeding Women. Identification And Enrollment Of Pregnant Women In Their First Trimester Is A Program Goal, As Is The Percent Of Wic Infants Born Each Month Who Are Breastfed. The Wic Local Agency Has Three Main Sites And Five Mobile Sites That Include High Schools And One Military Reservation. Wic Services Are Provided For Those Who Are The Most Vulnerable Of Our Population. Services Are Provided Free Of Charge And Opportunities For Outreach To Increase Participation Are On-Going. Christus Santa Rosa Children'S Hospital Neonatal And Pediatric Transport Teams Are Comprised Of Clinically Specialized And Trained Transport Nurses And Respiratory Therapists Who Travel In Teams Throughout South Texas To Transport Critically Ill Infants And Children To And From Christus Santa Rosa Children'S. The Teams Fly Fixed Wing, Helicopter Or Ground Transport. The Neonatal And Pediatric Teams Are Ready For Transport Within 30 Minutes Of Notification. Outlying Rural Hospitals Coordinate Transports By Calling A 1-800 Number Where Physician-To-Physician Information About Patient Conditions Are Shared. Physicians Can Call For Consultation Services Or For Referral For Transport. Upon Arrival At The Referring Hospital, The Team Assesses The Patient'S Status, Stabilizes The Patient For Transport, Provides The Family And Staff With Appropriate Information And Remains In Contact With The Physician At The Appropriate Christus Santa Rosa Children'S Hospital Intensive Care Unit. Once Stabilized, The Infant Or Child Is Transported To Children'S Hospital Where The Neonatologist Or The Pediatric Intensivist Assumes Care. Nicu And Pediatric Transport Team Nurses And Physicians Outreach To Other Facilities Through Continued Medical And/Or Nursing Education Classes, Provided Free Of Charge. The Muzquiz Project Is A Collaborative Effort Between Christus Santa Rosa Children'S Rehabilitation Department And The Goldsbury Foundation. Muzquiz Is A Northern Mexico Town Whose Original Name Is Santa Rosa. It Is Located Along The Mountainous Ridge Known As Sierra De Santa Rosa. Muzquiz Has A School For Physically And Mentally Challenged Children Who Are In Need Of Corrective Surgeries And Physical Rehabilitation. The Goldsbury Foundation Committed Funds To Establish A Process To Provide Services For The Children In Muzquiz. On A Quarterly Basis, A Multidisciplinary Team Including Rehabilitation Therapists, Nurses, Pediatricians And Various Specialty Physicians Visit Muzquiz To Provide Clinic Services And Examine Children. The Children With Greatest Need Are Selected For Surgery At Children'S Hospital. The Clinical Staff In Muzquiz Has Been Trained To Provide Post Operative Rehabilitation Therapies. The Rehabilitation Program Director Regularly Travels To Muzquiz To Ensure Program Goals Are Being Met. The Endowment Funds Provided Through The Program Cover The Cost Of Hospitalization For Children Who Require Surgical Interventions And Only While The Patient Is Receiving Surgery And Post Operative Care At Santa Rosa Children'S Hospital. The Csrhc Mobile Van Maintains A Schedule To Visit Selected Sites In San Antonio And Bexar County And Provide Services Through The Lifecycles Women'S Services Program. The Target Population Includes Pregnant Or Postpartum Women And Uninsured Women Between 40 And 60 Years Of Age Who Are In Need Of Mammogram Screenings. Medicaid Application Assistance, Free Pregnancy Testing, Appointments To Obstetricians And Pre-Registration At Christus Santa Rosa Hospital For Delivery Are Among Services Offered. The Neighborhood Office For The Lifecycles Program Offers Individual And Family Counseling, Social Service Referrals And Educational Support For Diabetics. The San Fernando Cathedral Health & Safety Fair Targets The Downtown Hispanic Community. The Fair Offers Health Screenings, Health Information, Files Of Life, Miscellaneous Give Away Items, Safety And Wic Information. Free Medical Screenings Are Provided By San Antonio Physicians To The Elderly, Women And Children. This Health Fair, Held In The Heart Of Downtown San Antonio, Is The Only Access To Health Care Many Of These Residents May Receive In The Entire Year. Each Year A Team Of Physicians, Nurses, Laboratory Staff, Sisters Of The Congregation, And Other Associates Makes A Two-Week Journey Into Some Of The Poorest Missions In Mexico. Known As Los Quijotes, The Team Provides Health Screenings, Medications, Diabetic Care And Basic Health Care Services At No Cost To The Community. Health Care, Supplies, Equipment, Medications And Tests Are Donated. Christus Fund: Christus Health Established The Christus Fund To Provide Resources To Not-For-Profit Agencies And Groups Whose Vision, Mission And Goals Are Consistent With Christus Health'S Mission, Values And Philosophy Of A Healthy Community. Accion Texas Is Dedicated To Helping People Work Their Way Out Of Poverty By Providing Technical Assistance, Business Micro Loans And Using The Individual Development Account To Foster The Wealth Building. They Are Now The Largest Microlender In The Usa. Our Direct Investment Of $200,000 Will Help Them Meet Some Of The Demand For Conventional Financing In Our Santa Rosa Region. San Antonio Alternative Housing Corporation Is A Premier Community Development Housing Organization That Offers Rental And Home Ownership Opportunities To Disadvantaged San Antonio Residents. Our Infra Structure Development Loan Of $650,000 Will Help Develop A 133 Unit Affordable Home Subdivision In South San Antonio, Of This Total Ten Homes Have Been Completed. Catholic Charities, Archdiocese Of San Antonio Used Our Investment Of $1,600,000 Towards The Purchase Of A 25,000 Sq. Ft. Building Which Will Serve As Their Headquarters. This Enabling Loan Will Help Them Build Capacity, Impact More Lives And Assist Them Save By Going From Being A Tenant To Owing Their Own Building. Total Community Services $ 8,842,136 C.
